Spansafe was developed by Speedspan, a Cincinnati-based technology firm specializing in hosting, redundancy architecture, internet security, and custom software development. Spansafe was created in 2004 to anticipate the need for archival storage of digital documents with easy and shareable access like the bank safety deposit box during the age of paper. Versions of Spansafe have been in use since 2005 and have been modified to create today's complete digital file preservation and management solution. The current version of Spansafe benefits from a "spec." project for a multi-billion-dollar government contracting firm in need of centralized, accessible document storage.

Spansafe's development group consists of its original developers, additional investors and complimentary marketing and management talent.
